BARANGAY Bolisong, on Saturday, November 15, survived the tenacious play of Barangay Esperanza’s top spiker, Chloe Santina Miano, to advance to the semifinal round in the Paglaum Cup women’s volleyball tournament in Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental.
A heartbreaking 23-25 loss in the opener of their best-of-three quarterfinal match had coach Roger Bagotsay’s Bolisong wards seriously regrouping to even up the score in the second set, 25-19.
In the deciding third set, which was up to only 15, it looked like a walk in the park for Bolisong when it raced to a mind-boggling 9-0 lead.
The spectators, some of them, even surmised it could be over to a rare 15-0 sweep. But the talented Miano, a five-foot-6 tall open hitter, unleashed everything she could deliver on the courts to spearhead Esperanza’s monster rally that eventually tied the game at 10-all.
There was so much excitement as momentum shifted back and forth, though Miano ― with no reliable backup to look up to ― cracked under pressure.
The high-scoring Miano lost steam and so her team Bolisong ― anchored by Recel Hallazo, Raiza Langgamen, Ditche Hallazgo, Bevien Castillo, Marinel Tahoynon, Misauri Estrada, and Sunday Mae Llido ― ran away with the game-clinching 15-12 victory.
