MEMBERS of biker groups in Cagayan de Oro participated in ‘Pedal for People and Planet, yesterday.

The activity, in commemoration of Earth Day, is simultaneous bike actions in nine different countries: the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan – organized by the Asian Peoples Movement for Debt and Development in partnership with the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) to call on governments and corporations to step up climate action to save the planet from climate catastrophe.

On Sunday, the bikers’ route was from Rodelsa Circle to the Steag State Power plant in San Martin, Villanueva, some 25 kilometers away. About fifty bikers from all walks of life took part with enthusiasm, with some participants even coming from the neighboring Municipality of Opol to take part in the event.

This is the second bike activity conducted by PMCJ, which previously conducted a Trisikad Caravan simultaneously in Barangays Bonbon, Lapasan, and Consolacion, this city.

Organizers said there will be more coordinated bike activities to be held throughout the rest of the year as PMCJ steps up the clamor for government action on climate change.
