THERE was no political circus-related fanfare on rainy Tuesday’s opening of the eight-day filing of Certificates of Candidacy for Cagayan de Oro as far as the local Comelec office is concerned.
Even the so-called nuisance candidates failed to knock on the Comelec office and file COC as of 3:47 pm on Tuesday, according to a reliable source of Gold Star Daily from the Comelec, who even joked “We can still afford to take a leave of absence kay mora’g nagpakagat pa ang mga kadidato.”
The source, however, cautioned “di lang pud ta magkumpyansa kay basin aduna pay masaag considering that until 5 pm pa taman nga pwede sila file sa ilang candidacy.”
Once again, the Commission on Elections welcomes political “aspirants” nationwide seeking to take the 18,280 elective positions up for grabs in the May 2025 national and local elections.
The number of elective positions to be voted for are Senators 12, Party-List Representatives 63, Member, House of Representatives 254, Governor 82, Vice Governor 82, Provincial board member 800, City Mayor 149, City Vice Mayor 149, City councilor 1,690, Municipal Mayor 1,493, Municipal Vice Mayor 1,493, Municipal councilor 11,948, Barmm Members of the Parliament 25 and Barmm Party Representatives at 40.
This developed as Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy revealed their slate for the 2915 May elections during the signing of a manifesto for One Kagay-an, Kauban ang Katawhan coalition with 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez on Saturday at the Senator Aquilino Pimentel Convention Center in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.
Barring unforeseen glitches and last-minute changes, the coalition will have Mayor Uy seeking reelection with Jocelyn ‘Bebot’ Rodriguez as City Vice Mayor, Uy’s son Raineir Joaquin ‘KapKik’ V. Uy as District 1 representative, Rufus Rodriguez as District 2 representative and his brother Maxie Rodriguez as AbaminPartylist Nominee for Congressman.
The District 1 Councilors for the coalition party will be:

Hon. Roger Abaday,
Mr. Juancho Roa Pascual,
Ms. Desiree Dahino,
