ALMOST daily we read in social media about complaints from road users about the traffic situation in the city. Naturally, road users, motorists, commuters, and pedestrians alike, would always want the best probably hoprfully for everyone. A few minutes of being obstructed from moving forward in a congested road could already trigger to blow a fuse.

Managing traffic is not an easy job, especially if most road users are unmindful of the situation of others, e.g., bahala na mo diha basta nakalusot na ko. This brings to mind some practical ang easy ways to help ease up traffic flow in our streets.

The motorists. When approaching a pedestrian lane, all that one needs to do is slow down and allow pedestrians to cross first instead of racing with the latter who could cross the pedxing first. It's a common sight almost everywhere.

And, when stopping at a pedestrian lane to wait for the green signal, it would help if motorists would stop before the pedxing stopping line, not on the pedxing itself.

Drivers of public utility vehicles could help a lot if they load and unload passengers only in designated areas which are mostly marked by yellow boxes

Then motorists in general could avoid parking in no-parking areas. These are easy-to-do and easy to remember solutions but they contribute a lot to easing up the flow of traffic in our streets.

Pedestrians and commuters too could meaningfully contribute to easing up the flow of vehicular traffic in our beloved city. But that will be for the next column.

Remember, it's best to be part of the solution rather than be the problem.
