BAYAN Muna Mindanao is ramping up its advocacy for higher wages, affordable prices, and anti-corruption reforms as it kicks off its campaign today for the May 12, 2025, elections.
Former Bayan Muna lawmaker Carlos Isagani ‘Kaloi’ Zarate said the widening gap between the minimum wage and the cost of living remains a major concern for Mindanao workers.
“The people of Mindanao continue to bear the brunt of rising costs and stagnant wages,” said Zarate, the party’s second nominee, adding “The gap between wages and living expenses demands immediate action.”
Minimum daily wages in Mindanao range from P350 to P396, while a family of five requires over P1,100 per day to meet basic needs, according to recent data.
Meanwhile, the Marcos administration has declared a “food security emergency” as prices of essential goods — including rice, sugar, cooking oil, and vegetables — remain high despite global price reductions and tariff adjustments.
Former Bayan Muna Rep. Eufemia ‘Ka Femia’ Cullamat criticized the administration’s spending priorities, accusing it of neglecting social services in favor of “controversial projects and luxury initiatives.”
Bayan Muna vowed to push for stricter price controls and legislative reforms to protect low-income households if elected. The party has long championed good governance, transparency, and economic justice.
