CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Barangay Balubal Chairman Pablo Bactong won the vice-presidential race of the Liga ng mga Barangay–Cagayan de Oro Chapter, securing 54 votes during the election held Friday morning, February 27.
Bactong defeated Barangay Canitoan Chairman Lancelot Padla, who received 18 votes from the 72 barangay chairpersons present.
Bactong is considered an ally of City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, while Padla is identified with the CDP party of 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez.
In his brief remarks after the proclamation, Bactong emphasized his commitment to servant leadership.
“Dili ko usa ka Vice-President, usa ko ka sulugoon sa ilang ipadangat nga mga yangungo,” he said, stressing that he intends to serve the concerns and aspirations of fellow barangay chairpersons.
Padla conceded the race but maintained that their political bloc remains intact.
“Sa 18 nga akong nakuha, ang among partido solid gyud kaayo, ang suporta naa,” he said, adding that their group remains firm in advocating good governance.
Addressing speculations of political rivalry between camps often associated with different political colors, Padla noted that while Liga elections are officially non-partisan, divisions during contests are difficult to avoid.
“Kung ang nagsangka lahi ug color, posibilidad ana dili gyud magkauban kay naa may lain-lain nga color. Lisod man kaayo,” he said.
The Padayon Pilipino group did not field a candidate for the vice-presidential post and declined to issue a statement following the results.
Liga President Marlo Tabac expressed confidence in Bactong’s leadership, citing his 18 years of experience in government service. Tabac said the outcome strengthens the Liga’s leadership as it engages in both local and national concerns.
Bactong is scheduled to take his oath as Liga vice-president during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, to be administered by Mayor Uy.
