ALUBIJID, Misamis Oriental — Two individuals were arrested Tuesday for allegedly operating an illegal numbers game, known locally as ‘wirik-wirik/swertres,’ in violation of Republic Act 9287.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), in coordination with the Alubijid Municipal Police Station, led the operation.

The suspects were identified as Julia Ubay-Ubay, 74, of Barangay Lanao, Alubijid, and Bernard Salinas, 45, a water refiller from Poblacion, Laguindingan.

According to a police report, the individuals were caught without a permit or license from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). The operation, part of the CIDG’s anti-illegal gambling campaign ‘Oplan Bolilyo,’ also involved Hexaprime Corporation.

Authorities confiscated several items during the arrest, including:
Betting Paraphernalia: Improvised receipts, a red notebook, a calendar, improvised tally sheets, and two logbook covers, all containing various swertres combination numbers.
Cash: A total of P1,179 in bet money and marked money, including two P20 bills with serial numbers AU645195 and CX789107.
Other Items: A black ballpen used for transactions and a Honda XRM 125 motorcycle valued at approximately P76,900.
