“IT takes a process to do things in government,” said Celso Abocejo, special assistant to Misamis Oriental Gov. Juliette Uy, today, July 31.
His statement came after Board Member Dexter Yasay condemned the non-release of capitol employee salaries in a privileged speech Monday.
Yasay claimed necessary documents were returned to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan because Uy did not want to include Vice Gov. Jeremy Jonahmar Pelaez as a signatory.
However, Abocejo denied Yasay’s statement today to Gold Star Daily, asserting that the governor recognizes the legislative branch’s autonomous power and independence.
Abocejo clarified that Uy still has matters to clarify and papers to review concerning her function and the legislative branch, especially since only P78 million remain in their general fund.
“Ang general fund wala nabahin, didto ga withdraw ang executive, didto sab ang legislative,” Abocejo said.
He said that one reason for the situation was a delayed transition, as Uy is still reviewing all papers and resolutions.
Abocejo pointed out there was no delay, noting Uy only took office on July 1.
He compared the current situation to former Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter Unabia’s tenure, where salaries were delayed for over four months without a privileged hour in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
“It is political,” Abocejo accused.
When asked if employees could receive their salaries next week, Abocejo said they would do their best, hoping the salaries would be released next week.
