ILIGAN City ― Among the words that stuck out in the minds of the viewers during that recent interview by Jessica Soho on the presidentiables was “Sayang.” This was uttered by Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson when asked to describe one word about the picture of Pres. Du30.
What did he mean by “sayang?” Of course, it meant, “what a waste.”
The meaning though runs deeper than deep. Like that decision on that “win” over that South China Sea which was favorable to this country. Of which Tatay Digs just said at one time that “it’s just some paper that can be thrown to the wastebasket.” Or words to that effect, Which might have emboldened China Although later, Du30 had changed tone, For he might have seen the reactions of many people. Especially men in uniform, “Sayang” then is a “loaded” word. Evoking several meanings, a word painting several pictures.
And the picture painted in your mind might not be the same as mine, Or might not be the same as Lacson’s himself. So many unspoken words by that single term of “sayang.” Which is a Tagalog word, one can see.
The other presidential wannabes gave standard answers. As in “Pangulo.” Or President. Leni gave more than one word ― President of the Philippines, Which too did not sit well with her admirers and supporters. And especially her detractors. For she gave more than one word, As in not getting the instructions, sayang.
I don’t know if the word is applicable to BBM too. Who was “missing” on that interview. Which prompted some “anti-BBM” to give some below-the-belt comments on social media. Like, he preferred Boy Abunda as the interviewer because his questions were really easy. Like “what was the color of the brief he was wearing?”
I didn't think it was as “below the belt” as that!
Needless to say that Lacson guy impressed me on that one. And among other things, it brought memories of that reveal about a “Jose Pidal” account then.
Complete with PowerPoint, Which wasn’t flattering to a powerful woman then ― PGMA. Who herself had words that stuck with her. Like, “Hello, Garci,” or “I …am sorry…”
And what did they say of the “fury” of somebody? “Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.”
And this led to Ping’s going abroad ― incognito, He said the experience taught him there outside the country to prepare meals for himself through Mr. Google.
And when he came here, when the coast was clear for him, Lacson even gamely demonstrated on TV how to cook some meal.
The abroad experience wasn’t “sayang” for him.
That chapter in his life was asked of him and he answered satisfactorily, that when he set out for abroad, there wasn't any warrant for him ― yet, He wasn’t breaking any law he said.
The guy really knows how to maneuver himself out of a sticky situation. He says too he isn't corrupt, he “doesn’t maintain pork barrel funds.”
But my eyes are getting sticky now, so we better stop this sticky talk for now.
