Wenceslao Salcedo, 77, has dedicated 56 years of his life to serving the Black Nazarene, a testament to his unwavering faith.
As head of the hijos, he's tasked with protecting the revered image during the annual Traslacion.
Salcedo's devotion began when he was 21, facing serious health issues, but joining the Jesus Nazareno Parish Church choir marked a turning point in his life.
"Dili nata kinahanglan mangita ug milagro, sa ngalan nga buhi pa ta hantod karon, milagro nana," Salcedo said, reflecting on his journey.
For Ricardo Abrera, 40, an OFW from Cyprus, the Black Nazarene remains a constant source of strength.
"Dako ang akong pagsalig sa Black Nazarene, eversince wala gyud ko nya gipasagdan," he shared.
This year's Traslacion in Cagayan de Oro City is expected to draw a larger crowd, with authorities anticipating 15,000 to 20,000 devotees.
The image will be transported to Saint Augustine Cathedral Church on January 8 at 7 p.m. and will begin its journey back to the Nazareno Church at 5 a.m. on January 9.
Part of the security measures during the procession include the deployment of 477 police personnel and 883 barangay tanods and force multipliers.
The police also require drone operators to register their equipment.
Temporary signal interruptions in select areas will also be implemented as part of the security measures.
