INSPIRED by the success of the Wabe Memorial Cup, organizers of the 4th Congressman Rufus Rodriguez Open Chess Tournament vowed to make it another world-rated event.
“Yes, we agreed that any Fide-rated tourney has decency desiplinado gyod ang mga participants apart from coming with dress-to-kill attire. Opportunity pud sa mga local talents nga ma-recognize sa international world ratings under Fide,” Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Association (CMOCA) president For Vic Arellano told Gold Star Daily.
Instead of staging it at Barangay Nazareth gym on January 28-29, next year, Arellano said they might consider the Limketkai Mall as the official venue to conform with the standards of the governing world chess body.
The offices of Rep. Rodriguez and Vice Mayor Jocelyn ‘Bebot’ Rodriguez will be hosting the cash-rich event in partnership with CMOCA to sustain chess development in the locality.
