ILIGAN City ― Two brothers were fatally shot late Wednesday night near a billiard hall in Barangay Del Carmen, Iligan City, police reported.
The victims, aged 30 and 28, were attacked around 11:30 pm, according to Police Major Zandrex Panolong, spokesperson for the Iligan City Police.
The elder brother owned billiard tables near the scene, while the younger sibling worked as a service crew member at a nearby eatery.
Three gunshots were heard by residents, but the incident was reported to authorities 30 minutes later, Panolong said.
Although CCTV footage from the area was available, the images were too blurred to identify the suspects, who reportedly fled in a sedan through a poorly lit section of Seminary Drive.
Police are investigating a possible grudge as the motive, as the brothers were previously involved in an altercation in Barangay Tubod.
Panolong said the attack occurred during Iligan’s fiesta and tourism season, raising concerns about public safety.
However, he assured the public that the incident was isolated.
The local police force has increased its presence, with additional officers deployed from nearby regions, particularly in high-traffic areas like the Mugna Trade Fair and during the upcoming ‘Pagpakanaug’ procession on September 20, a key religious event in the city’s St. Michael Cathedral.
