DIGOS City ― One person was killed, while two others were injured during a vehicle smash-up near the traffic light along the junction of Quirino Avenue and Davao-Cotabato National Highway in this city at about 9 am today.
A police report identified the fatality as Charlie Diamalon Molan, 47, a resident of Sitio Guisok, Barangay Demoloc, Malita, Davao Occidental.
Lt. Colonel Hamlet Lerios, Digos City police chief in a press statement; traffic investigators reported that at around 5:30 am a Toyota pickup truck; a Honda CFT-125; and an Isuzu double cab pickup with a canopy were involved in the smash-up near the traffic light early in the morning of May 9.
The Toyota Hilux bearing plate number AAG-7454 was driven by Junriel Mabano Ludiana, 34, a resident of KJC CMPD PHIL-JAP Catitipan, Davao City, and registered to The Executive Pastor of Kingdom of Jesus Christ in Buhangin, Davao City.
Jeffrey Lincoran Isil, 37, a resident of Barangay Demoloc, Malita, Davao Occidental was driving the CFT-125 motorcycle with Charlue Diamalon Molan, 47, a resident of Sitio Guisok, Barangay Demoloc as the back rider.
Edyl Guillermo Araiz was behind the wheel of the Isuzu double cab bearing plate number NGT-8683 registered under the name of Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Digos City traffic investigators were told that the said vehicles were all heading towards the North of the Davao-Cotabato national highway wherein the Izusu truck leading the line followed by the Toyota Hilux with the CFT-125 motorcycle tailing behind them on the road.
It was further recalled that upon reaching the traffic light, the CFT-125 motorcycle passed the Toyota Hilux, but the CFT-125 driver lost control of the handlebar causing the motorcycle to swerve to the left side of the road where the Toyota Hilux bumped the rear end of the CFT-125 pushing it to the rear bumper of the Izusu pickup truck.
The CFT-125 driver was reportedly injured and brought to the hospital by emergency responders of the Digos City Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Charlie Diamalon Molan, 47, the back rider was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
All vehicles sustained still an unconfirmed cost of damages due to the accident that also trigger heavy traffic at the place of the incident.
