The Misamis Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) is confident and ready to respond to any disaster in the near future that might hit the province by gearing themselves with new equipment. PDRRMC chairman Fernando Dy told Mindanao Gold Star Daily said with the increasing number of funds for the coming year of 2017 they would likely establish disaster team in the province with modern equipment like vehicles, communication and conduct more series disaster training seminars in the municipal level. In the current year, PDRRMC is holding funds amounting to only P7.2 Million for its entire operation in 2016, the upcoming year has a bigger funds amounting to P11.6 Million to be used for the upcoming purchase of disaster equipment like ambulances, fire trucks, fiber glass rescue boats and motorcycles for fast monitoring. “Lahi na nga class ang rubber boats because during disasters kasagara ani matusok sa mga ha-it nga butang and then maglisod nga maka-recover og dali. Dapat unta maintain ang iyang hangin. Busa karon fiber glass na ang rescue boats para dili dali mabuslot,” he said. He said fiber glass recuse boats can be mobilized only by one person rescuer and can able to load of about eight to ten persons subjected for rescue operations during floods. “Mabitbit ra man kini sa us aka tawo and then daghan ang maescue,” he added. Dy said purchase of new and high-powered motorcycles is made to respond municipal and hinterland barangays that needs immediate respondents during disasters and calamities to 23 municipalities and two cities in the province. “Sa kaluag og kalapad sa lalawigan, nagkinahanglan gyud nga abton and only motorcycle can do it fast and easy access to the affected areas during emergency call of assistance,” he pointed out. On Monday, suppliers had started delivering high-powered motorcycles at the Provincial Capitol ground for testing and monitoring. “We will be having 11 motorcycle this year and another 15 motorcycles for 2017 and would be assigned to every municipalities for quickesponse and monitoring in every emergency cases,” he said. PDDRRMC-Misamis Oriental is also proposing on it’s 2017 Annual Investment Plan (AIP) to purchase Jet Ski for the upcoming years. He said with the new purchase of equipment is also use for the constant coordination among disaster risk reduction offices of each town in the province is being conducted to prepare and mitigate effects of the expected La Nina this year. He added that they widened now the seminars on disaster preparations and response to residents living in coastal areas and along river banks should monitor and heed the advisories issued by authorities.
