By Nora Soriño, Iligan Bureau Chief and Adelfa Lachica, Correspondent Iligan City — Unidentified motorcycleiding gunmen shot and killed the husband of a barangay chair here while the latter was having a drinking session at the house of a friend. Responding police from Station 5 identified the fatality as Ronald ‘Tata’ Fuentes, 46, and a resident of Barangay Saray, this city. Fuentes sustained seven bullet wounds on the different parts of his body. The victim was rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The shooting victim is the husband of Saray barangay chair Myla Fuentes. Initial investigation show that Fuentes was having a drinking session at the house of his friend known as Abne ‘Andot’ Paitan with other friends when the unidentified suspects, on board a motorcycle stopped in front of them and started firing their weapons and then fled. PO2 Efraim Baje recovered five spent shells of a caliber .45 and five spent shells of an M16 assault rifle at the crime scene. Baje said they are still investigating the motive behind the killing and are conducting follow-up operations on the incident. This is the second killing in the same barangay within a week. On Aug. 30, at about 2:40 pm, a habal-habal driver was found lifeless on the side of the road. The Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered from the victims body pertinent documents for his identity, a P100 peso bill which could have been the amount paid by the assailant who hired him shortly before shooting him. Other items found on the victim was the crash helmet.
