Dosdos, Jr, and Sita Asequia, Correspondents MARAWI City — Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (Opapp) Secretary Jesus Dureza braved the inclement weather on Thursday to be the guest speaker in Kanduri for Brotherhood and Peace at the residence of former Mayor Fahad Salic at Barangay Kambingan here. The Kanduri, organized by former Mayor Omar “Solitario” Ali was attended by hundreds of participants from all walks of life. It was opened by former Mayor Fahad Salic who expressed his warm welcome to all present. In his speech, Dureza outlined the road map for peace of the Duterte Administration. He said that the President wants an inclusive peace where all sectors of the Bangsamoro Society are given their ideas, hopes and feelings on how to achieve peace in Mindanao. He recalled that the government had signed a peace agreement with the Moro National Liberation Front but the hostilities continued; an agreement was also signed with the the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) but peace has not been attained. He said the present national leadership has demonstrated a leadership that could probably attain a lasting peace. “Unilateral ceasefires among the warring factions in Mindanao have been declared and a relative peace has been attained,” he said. However, the attainment of peace needs more efforts not only on the government and the rebel forces but also on all individuals in the country. “If could to do it I would have done it long ago. I had served under President Ramos and President Arroyo but now I am still pursuing peace,” Dureza said. The Kanduri ended with a Commitment to Brotherhood and Peace read by former Mayor Omar “Solitario” Ali. The manifesto will be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte through Dureza.
