Cagayan de Oro City – As the Vice President of the League of Vice Governor’s in the Philippines, Vice Governor Joey Pelaez rallies all Vice Governors in the Philippines to pass a resolution supporting the implementation of the Department of Education’s K to 12 Program. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the “Department of Education (DepEd) will implement the new Philippine Basic Education system which covers one year of Kindergarten, six years of elementary, four years of junior high school, and an additional two years of senior high school dubbed as the K-to-12 Basic Education Program”. Vice Governor Pelaez recognizes the need for “immense logistical and financial support from all stakeholders from national to local levels” upon the implementation of the program, thus he authored the SangguniangPanlalawigan Resolution No. 134 – 2015 “strongly supporting the full implementation of the K-To-12 Basic Education Program and urging all stakeholders to help the department of education (DepEd) in its implementation”. In Luzon, many have opposed the implementation of the program, saying they are unconvinced that the Philippines is prepared to implement K to 12 program. But Governor Pelaez stressed that it is the right time to implement the program. “It is high time for the country to fully embrace the K-to-12 Basic Education Program to enable our young people to compete in the global and international stage with world-class competencies, skills and values,” Vice Governor Pelaez emphasized. To date, the Philippines remains to be the only country in Asia and one of the three remaining countries in the world that have yet to implement the twelve-year program of basic education. Moreover, the K-to-12 Basic Education curriculum has been designed to match with the basic education system of other ASEAN Member Communities which the Philippines will be soon integrated. “The K-to-12 Basic Education Program will redound to the benefit of the young people and their families, especially the poor and the underprivileged, of respective communities and the industries within, and of the country as a whole – its postponement should never be an option,” the Vice Governor added. Vice Governor Pelaez calls for the “Bayanihan” Spirit of his fellow SanggniangPanlalawigan members across the country for support, requesting them to pass a similar resolution of support for the Department of Education in the implementation of the K-To-12 Basic Education Program.
