OPOL, Misamis Oriental — Fourteen families, totaling more than 52 individuals, are currently housed in an evacuation center here after flooding hit the town this morning, Nov. 8, brought by Typhoon Uwan.

The evacuees are primarily from the areas of Youngsville, City Homes, and Opol, according to Engr. Romeo Lonoy, head of Opol’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

Lonoy told iFM-RMN-dxCC that these communities experienced heavy flooding due to continuous rainfall since last night.

“Naa tay gihimo ganina nga force evacuation kay hinumduman nga gabie nag ulan na, ikatulo to kahugna, ganina buntag gi bwelo nasad ang ulan,” Lonoy said.

In total, seven barangays have been affected — six coastal and one midland. Rescue operations are ongoing as of press time, Lonoy confirmed.

Dump trucks have been deployed to areas like Igpit, which they found difficult to access due to high water levels.

More than 52 individuals are safely at the Opol evacuation center. This number is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

The Opol Gymnasium, which is serving as the evacuation center, had modular tents prepared since last night.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office is now conducting assessments and has started distributing food packs to the evacuees.
