AS of 7 pm Monday, the entire island of Dinagat is without power as Tropical Storm Tino moves closer, unleashing three-meter (10-foot) waves, officials said.
Rep. Arlene ‘Kaka’ Bag-ao said the seven towns of Dinagat Island — Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo, San Jose, and Tubajon — were plunged into darkness by nightfall, hampering evacuation efforts for affected residents.
“The capital town of San Jose is without electricity, and we hear reports of three-meter waves,” Bag-ao told Gold Star Daily in a phone interview.
Bag-ao said heavy rains began around 3 pm Monday and are expected to worsen when Tino makes landfall around 11 pm.
