I heard on the radio that the city will continue to prohibit people from staying in public and private cemeteries between 10 pm and 6 am from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
I wonder why this policy is still being enforced, considering it was first implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This rule needs to be reexamined by the city government. It deprives not only residents but also relatives from other areas who wish to spend more time with their departed loved ones. I recall that this was once recommended by Mr. Cuenca, who failed to provide a convincing justification for it.
The new Clenro head should not be bound by the questionable policies of her predecessor. Her focus should be on protecting the environment — such as ensuring that the garbage collection contractor fulfills its duties to the satisfaction of city residents.
I also question why the Clenro is leading the enforcement of this policy, which seems outside its mandate.
Is Clenro now tasked with crowd management? Isn’t that the responsibility of the police?
When compared with the large crowds at events like the city’s Higalaay Festival launch, the civic-military parade, or motocross races, the gatherings in cemeteries are far smaller and more dispersed.
Come to think of it — does this policy still make sense today?
