ILIGAN City ― A claimant of Social Security System (SSS) benefits criticized the local branch for what she described as inefficient service and repeated delays.

Maribel Edul aired her frustration on a local radio station Thursday, saying that her claim for her husband’s burial and death benefits — filed in 2023 — remains unprocessed.

She said the delay is due to the SSS repeatedly asking for additional documentary requirements.

Edul claimed that even after submitting documents from the Local Civil Registrar and the Philippine Statistics Authority, SSS employees continued to ask for more paperwork.

She expressed frustration that the agency could have provided a complete list of requirements from the beginning, which would have saved her time, money, and multiple return visits.

She added that the ongoing back-and-forth has forced her to borrow money from friends just to afford travel to the SSS branch.

Other callers to the same radio program backed Edul’s account, citing similar experiences with the agency.

As of press time, the local SSS management has not issued a response to the allegations.
