ILIGAN City Mayor Frederick Siao denied claims that he supports the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, dismissing social media posts suggesting otherwise.

Speaking to reporters on February 6, Siao stated that he had never issued any comment on the matter, emphasizing that as a mayor, he has no involvement in congressional decisions.

“I have nothing to do with it. This is a desperate move by some aspirants here,” he said, adding that those seeking opinions should instead ask the city’s congressional representative, Celso G. Regencia.

Regencia, Iligan’s lone district representative, was among the 215 House members who voted in favor of Duterte’s impeachment, becoming the 90th signatory to the measure.

In neighboring Lanao del Norte, lawmakers were divided on the issue.

First District Rep. Khalid Q. Dimaporo did not support the impeachment, while Second District Rep. Aminah Dimaporo was the 187th to sign.

On February 5, the House of Representatives voted 215-91 to impeach Duterte, surpassing the required 103 votes to transmit the complaint to the Senate for trial.
