CAGAYAN de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez received a death threat via SMS to his personal number, yesterday. He suspects it is politically motivated.
After a grenade-throwing incident inside their residence in Nazareth on September 29, last year, Rodriguez has sought the help of the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation again ― a threatening text message.
“Rufus putang ina ka isang bala ka lang di mo kaya ang taga tabok,” and “Bilang na araw mo Rufus Gago ka,” read the two text messages coming from two different phone numbers.
In a statement posted by Team Rodriguez on their Facebook page, the deputy speaker condemned the threat and violence that undermine the safety, security, peace, and order of the upcoming 2022 elections and the city.
It was learned that Team Rodriguez has already contacted Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Director PCol. Aaron Mandia, yesterday morning.
“We assure our people that we will remain undeterred by these threats committed by daredevil perpetrators. While others may think to thrive through violence and intimidation, the Uban Ta Bai Coalition will remain steadfast in our principled platform and in ensuring peace and order in our city,” the same statement reads in part.
In an interview over local radio today, Rodriguez said he can see no other intention on the said threats but political because he can’t remember any other personal enemy encountered.
