PREMIER host team RS Doki started strong in a cash-rich invitational basketball tournament that opened last Sunday, June 29, at the breezy Poblacion Plaza in Claveria.
The visiting 3 KM ballers from Cagayan de Oro also made their presence felt in the “75th Araw ng Claveria RS Doki Invitational 40-up Basketball League,” which offers approximately P100,000 in total cash prizes for the top four teams.
RS Doki, led by Pocholo Agusan and Ernesto Tagarda and representing newly-minted Claveria Mayor Dr. Reynante Salvaleon, defeated Salay BC and Red Sun for a 2-0 start.
The 3 KM squad, reinforced by former Liceo de Cagayan University standout Jayson ‘Boyet’ Alfeche, also debuted with a convincing win against Natumolan in the same Bracket A.
“Isa gyod ‘ning 3 KM ang gi-expect nga lig-on makontra sa Bracket A aside sa RS Doki kay kombate pa kaayo si Boyet (Alfeche), unya naa silay shooter (Enkoy) ug big man (Sobiono),” one local referee told Gold Star Daily.
Bracket B competitors include MEP Pharmacy, Jacque Jones, Bajao Design Build, CCBC and Dame Steel.
Claveria sports coordinator Sofio Don Polinar Pepito said the champion in the 10-team civic (40-up) rivalry will take home the P50,000 top purse and the championship trophy.
The second, third and fourth placers will receive P30,000, P15,000 and P10,000, respectively, also with trophies.
