CAGAYAN de Oro City’s Night Market Management Committee conducted a clearing operation in the Cogon market area to address sidewalk obstructions and traffic violations.
The move comes after Mayor Rolando Uy ordered the immediate removal of sidewalk vendors clogging key streets to improve traffic flow and public safety.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) and the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), under the supervision of the City Hall’s Night Market Management Committee.
During the crackdown, several ambulant and sidewalk vendors were issued citation tickets, and their goods were confiscated to clear the sidewalks.
The Roads and Sidewalk Clearing Unit (RasCU) of the RTA also apprehended illegally parked vehicles and impounded unregistered motorcycles and pedicabs found within the area.
The focus of the operation was on vendors along J.R. Borja and Capt. Vicente Roa streets — areas where vending is prohibited.
The city had previously relocated these vendors to designated stalls to allow them to continue their livelihood legally.
Mayor Uy emphasized the importance of adhering to city regulations, reiterating his appeal for vendors to refrain from returning to unauthorized streets.
He stressed that these measures are necessary to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of all residents, especially in emergencies.
The operation was conducted in coordination with the RTA, the City Economic Enterprises and Business Development Administration, and the Night Market Team, demonstrating a unified effort to enforce urban regulations and maintain order in the city.
