Netnet Camomot  SOME areas in Pinas have been having earthquake drills. When that dreadful day does arrive, I wonder who among the drills' participants will remember what to do with their heads. Newspaper photos show that their defense against falling debris includes covering their heads with their hands. Hmmm, better than nothing at all? Disasters can happen anytime and no one can ever claim to have a 100-percent level of preparation for that. So, what to do? Pray? Well, there's insurance. And Pioneer is one of those that offer such services to Pinoys. This is the insurance company whose green building, Pioneer House CDO, was inaugurated last Friday. It's the only building in Visayas and Mindanao that has reached the platinum level of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) certification, and only the second building in the Philippines to receive the platinum certification for core and shell development, garnering a total of 83 points in the Leed scorecard of the US Green Building Council. Although you go there to seek insurance advice, you'll find yourself savoring the place's relaxing ambience as you gaze at Cagayan de Oro's skyline from the building's top floors which include a roof garden that features a concrete bench in the shape of Pioneer's logo. The food at the inauguration was catered by Sentro 1850, the menu having been carefully selected through a food-tasting session about two weeks ago with the supervision of at least one Pioneer representative from Manila, which proves that this is one insurance company focused not only on the big picture but also on the smallest of details. Sentro has always been a favorite among CDO's food enthusiasts and its higher-end Circa 1850 is also attracting that same crowd. The food at Pioneer's inauguration was again a yummy achievement that only Sentro could provide in this corner of Pinas. CDO's skyline has been changing rapidly and Pioneer House CDO with its six storeys and roof deck may not be as tall as the condominium buildings that are starting to sprout in both the downtown and uptown areas, but it has definitely made its presence felt with its Leed platinum certification which the taller buildings in the city could only wish for. One of the contributors to that Leed certification is the structure's recycling system that captures 55 percent of CDO's rainwater. Well, that's how I heard it during the inauguration's program last Friday. And the other contributor could be the roof garden, although if you ask the Leed experts, there are many more features that make Pioneer House CDO the epitome of a building in this age of climate change. Thirty-five thousand walruses were washed ashore last year in Alaska because there was no more ice. Blame that on climate change. The 1995 movie “Waterworld” warns us of an Earth in the year 2500 where the ice has melted and people are living on sea vessels and floating cities. The only land that managed to be visible above all that water is Mount Everest, now called Dryland. Most probably to distinguish it from the wider wet world called as the ocean? But with the way climate change has, well, changed the world, that year could be sooner than 2500. The next president of Pinas should have climate change in mind as this is now the reality we're facing and not simply a movie we're watching like, say, “Mission: Impossible––Rogue Nation.” Have you seen that movie? Tom Cruise again did his own stunts, making his stunt double so bored on the set. Haha. That was also Cruise himself in the six-minute underwater scene which required him to hold his breath for, well, six minutes. And there was the actor hanging on to a flying plane. Yes, even that stunt was done by Cruise. My bro says the actor is crazy, but it's a good kind of crazy because it makes people watch his movies. The easier stunts he did for the movie were the breathtaking car and motorcycle chases. The movie's pleasant surprise was Rebecca Ferguson who also did most of her stunts. That's what happens to actors working with Cruise. If he can do his own stunts, why can't they? It's that challenge that can keep a scene alive and kicking. It's a funny action movie. With that formula, the only other thing you would notice outside of the stunts is Ferguson's lean and mean presence. While watching the movie, the question lurking in my fats was, Is it still possible for my senior moments to slim down to that? Or is that now mission impossible?
