NEARLY 600 persons with disability (PWD) from 23 municipalities and two cities in Misamis Oriental participated in a celebration of the 47th National Disability Rights Week on September 23.

The event, which was held at the Provincial Capitol Ground, carried the theme “Innovation for Inclusion: Building Inclusive Communities Together.”

Jhunleymar D. Abella, the provincial social worker development officer, said the event cost around P600,000.

The day included a sports festival with events such as crutches racing, checkers, chess, and basketball, with the highlight event being ‘PWD Got Talents.’

Abella said activities had been held in each town during the week leading up to the final celebration.

Each city and town in the province has funds for PWD benefits, and the provincial capitol also has a prepared budget for their needs, including financial assistance, the purchase of wheelchairs, and training and seminars.

According to Abella, 5% of the total provincial budget is allocated annually for PWDs and senior citizens.
