ILIGAN City — A 54-year-old man and a female minor were killed late Monday night following a confrontation between police and an armed suspect in Barangay Abuno.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on Nov. 18 in Zone 3, Panul-iran.
According to the police report, the 54-year-old suspect, armed with a bolo and a scythe, suddenly charged at responding officers. The attack left one officer with an abrasion on his right forearm.
Citing an imminent threat to their lives, the officer and his partner fired back, shooting the suspect. During the altercation, a stray bullet accidentally struck a female minor.
The girl was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The suspect was also transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by an attending physician.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) have processed the site and are continuing their investigation.
Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) Director Col. Jerry A. Tambis issued a statement Tuesday expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy and extending condolences to the minor’s family.
“This office assures the public that a comprehensive and impartial investigation is underway to establish the facts of the incident, evaluate the actions taken by the responding personnel, and determine accountability where necessary,” Tambis said.
Tambis emphasized that the ICPO remains committed to transparency and proper police procedure. He assured the public that the case will be resolved in accordance with Philippine National Police protocols and existing laws.
