ACCESS to potable water will be one of Opol Mayor Jayfrancis Bago’s lasting legacy to its residents.
He announced that, thanks to the efforts of his administration and good governance, the Municipality of Opol has officially achieved First Class status, effective January 1, 2025.
Reflecting on the progress made over the past two years, Bago expressed his deep commitment to addressing the water crisis that has impacted numerous barangays.
“As someone who is rooted in this community, I understand the struggles our residents face regarding access to clean water,” he said.
To combat this issue, Mayor Bago has forged partnerships with the Cagayan de Oro Water District and South Balibago Waterworks, a private bulk supplier.
He said these collaborations aim to enhance the water supply infrastructure, ensuring that every household in Opol has reliable access to clean water.
Beyond resolving water supply challenges, Bago's administration has overseen the construction of essential facilities, including child development centers, a multi-purpose rehabilitation activity center, a public market, and a health development center.
The installation of solar-powered street lights and spillways throughout the municipality further demonstrates his dedication to enhancing public services and infrastructure.
Since taking office in 2022, Bago, a former councilor, has also introduced initiatives at the municipal-run Opol Community College, offering free tuition, professional exam review sessions, and scholarship programs for students.
He announced that over P620,531 has been allocated for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) and support for 77 local associations and cooperatives.
Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Bago expressed gratitude to Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia for the ongoing financial support directed toward Opol's development in livelihood and health sectors.
As Mayor Bago continues to implement transformative projects, his efforts to resolve the long-standing water crisis and achieve First Class status for the municipality stand poised to become cornerstones of his legacy, paving the way for a brighter future for the residents of Opol.
