The real beaver, however, is the dam-building rodent that stars in the movie "Hoppers".
I used to watch movies every week. Lately, I’d rather read books. Going to SM CDO Downtown Premier has become a chore, with travel time that can last an hour or two. Thus, a movie has to be worth it. Otherwise, why bother?
Now that SM City CDO Uptown is glowing up into a bigger mall — hopefully with its own Director’s Club cinemas — Cagayanon uptowners are also wishing for an Ayala mall and an S&R branch in uptown Cagayan de Oro. Libre ang mangarap. I mean, if scientists can transfer a human brain into a beaver robot in 'Hoppers,' then anything is possible.
So does the possibility include a LenBong tandem for the 2028 presidential election? Yes, though it sounds like limbong, the Pinoy word for deceit.
LenBong stands for former Vice President Leni Robredo and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (PBBM). Such a pairing would be qué horror to the truly yellow (the Aquinos) and the truly red (the Marcoses). But after Robredo used pink instead of yellow for her 2022 presidential campaign, the yellowish pink — or pinkish yellow — may no longer be so strict when it comes to choosing the most appropriate vice-presidential candidate for her.
LenBong may — or may not — be strong enough to beat Vice President Sara Duterte, who has already declared that she will run for president in 2028. Only the electoral results will tell.
If Sara Duterte chooses Senator Imee Marcos as her running mate, oh my — prepare for a Marcos-versus-Marcos battle in the vice-presidential race. Yay.
In case you’ve been hiding under a rock since birth: Senator Imee is PBBM’s eldest sister.
Gone are the days when PBBM was my crush.Yes, he was — way back in the ’70s, when magazines and newspapers constantly featured the Marcoses as the ideal family. Martial law enabled then-President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to control the media, so Filipinos always had a glimpse of how “ideal” his family supposedly was, especially with his most beautiful First Lady, Imelda Marcos.
The fairy tale began to unravel in the early ’80s, when Filipinos had had enough of the Marcos dictatorship and martial law. When Ninoy Aquino was assassinated upon his arrival at the Manila International Airport (MIA) on August 21, 1983, all hell broke loose. There was no stopping Filipinos anymore from saying, “Tama na, sobra na, palitan na.”
Now you know why MIA was renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). That’s what the Marcoses hear every time they travel by plane through NAIA — since 1987.
Aquino never saw the yellow ribbons that would have welcomed him had he been allowed to return home to Times Street in Quezon City.
Thus began the yellow (the Aquinos) versus the red (the Marcoses).
Aquino’s assassination, by the way, remains controversial. Yes, there was a fall guy. But the mastermind is still widely believed to be unknown. That’s how powerful he — or she — must have been. Omertà at work, with no one seemingly interested in knowing the truth and nothing but the truth.
Decades later, here comes the possible pairing of yellow (Robredo) and red (Marcos). Qué horror! Whose soul will rise from the grave if this ever becomes a reality? Ninoy’s? Or Ferdinand Senior’s?
