ILIGAN City ― The patient who died on Sunday night at the Adventist Medical Center here has been buried in a hinterland barangay of this city.
Omar Cader, chair of Bonbonon, a barangay 14 kilometers away from this city, told reporters on Tuesday morning that on Monday after he received a call from one of the city’s consultants Leony Roy Ga.
Ga, Cader said, asked permission to bury the cadaver in his barangay. That was about 3 pm, Cader added and he was told of the circumstances. He asked whether such a move wouldn’t be “dangerous.”
He was assured that it was not. The city owns the burial site in the barangay. Cader told reporters he relented. And so the burial was made there to the dismay of some residents who made attempts to stop the burial.
Dr. Cherlina Canaveral, city health officer, assured the residents here that proper protocols were observed with the body being thoroughly wrapped so there would be no risk and that the people buried the body wore proper protective equipment.
To note, the patient was admitted to the said hospital Sunday around 9 am. Canaveral said swabs had been taken from the patient but the results have yet to be determined.
