GUSA Regional Science High School topped all three categories in the 1st Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy – Kinaadman sa Kasaysayan Literary and Speech Contest held June 27 at SM CDO Downtown Premier.

The event gathered 16 public high schools from Cagayan de Oro, competing in quiz bowl, oratorical speech, and poster-making.

The contest aimed to raise historical awareness among students while encouraging creative and critical thinking.

Gusa Regional Science High School placed first in all categories. In quiz bowl, they earned P15,000, a plaque, and medals. Camaman-an National High School placed second with P10,000, and Lumbia National High School took third with P5,000.

In the oratorical contest, Gusa again claimed first place with P10,000. Lapasan National High School followed with P7,500, and Bugo National High School with P5,500.

Gusa also topped the poster-making contest. Cugman National High School placed second with P7,500, and Kauswagan National High School placed third with P5,500.

The City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office led the event with support from the Local School Board, City Museum and Heritage Studies Center, and Rotaract Club of Carmen Valley, as part of the city’s 75th Charter Day celebration.

Participating schools included Agusan NHS, Balulang NHS, Bonbon NHS, Bugo NHS, Bulua NHS Patag Annex, CDO NHS Junior High, Camaman-an NHS, Canitoan NHS, Carmen Science High School, Cugman NHS, Gusa Sci-High, Kauswagan NHS, Lapasan NHS, Lumbia NHS, Pedro Oloy Roa NHS, and Puerto NHS.

The contest highlighted the role of young learners in shaping a deeper connection with the city’s roots.
