TALISAYAN Gym in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental was totally razed early morning Thursday.
Firefighters were not able to quell the burning gym which was located at the back of the town’s fire station ― a mere 10 meters away.
Mariano Candano, the Municipal executive assistant to the mayor, said the Talisayan Gym is located in the back of the Fire Station but unfortunately the building was not saved with P3.5 million more or less estimated damage of the building and properties including the plastic chairs, furniture, electric cooler fans, and many others.
Municipal Fire Marshal Insp. Jose M. Pajaron Jr said the fire possibly started at about 4:55 am and it broke out after an hour until the building was completely destroyed.
Town Councilor Gremer Ramoga, chairman of the Committee on Peace and Order, Public Safety said he wants the incident investigated.
Pajaron explained that they were not able to immediately notice that the gym was on fire because it had a high firewall surrounding it.
Pajaron said the fire guard on duty only found out that there was a fire only after a man shouted that there was a fire at around 5 am.
“Immediately, upon knowing, we responded but it was too late because the fire had already broken out and had engulfed 70% of the gym,” he said.
“Amo gepaspasan pagtira sa tubig ang balay nga hinimo sa light materials dool sa gym aron ma prevent ang mas dako nga sunog,” said SFO1 Donald Chris R. Galisa, Operation Chief.
Firefighters declared fire out at about 7 am of the same day. They have yet to probe how the fire started.
