DESPITE the presence of Typhoon Uwan, a fire in Block 39, 7B Youngsville, Igpit, Opol, caused an estimated P1.2 million in structural damage this morning, November 8.

The two-story house, owned by Jesus Maglinao, was engulfed in flames at approximately 8:50 am.

Fire Officer 1 Michelle Hanz Arbutante, the fire arson investigator for the Opol Fire Station, told iFM-RMN-dxCC in an interview that responders arrived on the scene at 8:57 am, by which point the fire had fully developed.

Three members of the Maglinao family sustained minor burns. They were treated at the Opol Health Center.

One family member reportedly jumped from the second floor because their wooden stairs had already been consumed by the fire.

“Gidala sa center kay naay gamay nga paso, gikan sa second floor niambak na sila kay ang ilang hagdan is made sa kahoy, mao nang niambak na sila,” Arbutante said.

Arbutante said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
