THE Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD), the city’s primary supplier of tap water, has advised residents to store at least one gallon of water per person per day for three days as Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) approaches.
The COWD issued the advisory on Monday, Nov. 3. While the agency has emergency plans in place to protect its water pumping facilities from the storm, officials warned that their preparations may not be enough if the situation worsens.
The advisory comes as the city takes broader steps to prepare for the severe tropical storm.
Cagayan de Oro Mayor Rolando Uy earlier suspended classes from kindergarten through high school starting Monday afternoon.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station in Cagayan de Oro also suspended sea travel for all types of vessels from the port to Cebu, Bohol, and all other areas affected by the typhoon.
The PCG order also affects the ferry service operating between Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin Island.
