Rainy season not expected till first or second week of June
EL SALVADOR CITY — Residents of Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon should prepare for more frequent afternoon thunderstorms as Mindanao enters the transition period between the dry and rainy seasons. According to Luz Mercado, weather specialist at the PAGASA El Salvador station, the official onset of the rainy season is not expected until the first or second week of June. While easterly winds currently prevail, "localized thunderstorms" will continue to bring scattered rain showers and cloudy skies across the region. However, weather officials warn farmers that these rains remain unpredictable and short-lived. PAGASA will only declare the start of the rainy season once the southwest monsoon takes over, characterized by five consecutive days of significant rainfall.
