CHESS fans around Northern Mindanao are in awe that the cash-rich Ozamiz Chess Open, held at least twice a year, is now in the orbit of Federation International des Echecs (Fide), otherwise known as the world’s governing body in chess.

And no one could be happier than the organizer himself in Arena Grandmaster and honorary National Master Rey Urbiztondo.

“Please inform everyone that the 3rd Governor Henry S. Oaminal Open Chess Festival is already in the Fide (world) rated calendar tournament,” shared Urbiztondo via online chess interaction.

The keenly-awaited Ozamiz Open stakes nearly P500,000 in total cash prizes with three categories, namely Open, Under 17, and 13.

In line with the celebration of the 95th Provincial Anniversary of Asenso Misamis Occidental, it will be held on November 4-5 at the Asenso Global Gardens in Tangub City.

“Let us delight in the presence of Asia’s first Grandmaster Eugene Torre, along with 30 Grandmasters, International Masters, Fide Masters, and National Masters who have registered early for this prestigious Fide-rated open tournament,” added Urbiztondo.
