GINGOOG City Mayor Erick Cañosa has reacted through a text message on the headline of this paper entitled “Cañosa, 2 others face graft raps,” dated October 4, and demanded the paper furnish him a certified and official copies of the said complaint.
“I cannot comment on things which I do not know since I have no copies of the complaint yet,” Cañosa said in a text message to this reporter today at 9:28 am.
The story reported on the graft complaint of Gingoog City resident Marzita Arango before the Office of the Ombudsman-Mindanao against Cañosa, Guido Guanzon, head of the General Services Office, and Dr. Grace Jadol, city health officer for the alleged overpriced purchase of incompletely delivered drugs and medicines in 2020.
The charges against the three were filed before the Office of the Ombudsman-Mindanao in February, this year, as revealed by the complainant Arango.
On June 7, this year, Arango showed to this reporter a copy of the official letter from the Office of the Ombudsman-Mindanao informing her that her complaint has already been forwarded to the Central Office for validation.
The complaint of Arango is assigned with reference number IC-OM-22-0190 by the Complaint and Case Monitoring System of the Office of the Ombudsman.
The complainant also accused the mayor of allegedly hiring 1,005 job orders without filling first the vacant positions and for the alleged illegal disbursement and spending of P809,881.90 for five employees whose appointments were invalidated by the Civil Service Commission in 2019.
Cañosa demanded copies of the complaints from this paper saying that should the Gold Star Daily cannot provide him a copy would be considered “hearsay.”
“I believe that Gold Star will [sic] not allow their correspondents to write articles based on hearsay,” Cañosa said in the same text message.
“I will wait until tomorrow (October 5), 12 noon in my office for the official copies based on your articles published by Gold Star,” Cañosa demanded in a thinly veiled threatening text message this morning.
