I heard over the radio that RTA Overseer Wric Salcedo is reconsidering the continuation of the new traffic scheme at Masterson Avenue, particularly the “No Left Turn” scheme at Vamenta Boulevard fronting the West City Central School.
The reason he posited was feedback from the RTA personnel manning the traffic in that area, stating that the queue of motor vehicles on Masterson had already reached the SPUM area.
Overseer Salcedo should consider that the personnel manning the area still have the mentality that burak is the only solution to the traffic problem there.
From a layman’s point of view, what causes the slowing down of motor vehicles coming down from uptown Masterson is the lingering unfamiliarity with the “No Left Turn” scheme at Vamenta. Naturally, drivers who are not yet familiar with the scheme tend to slow down upon reaching Vamenta, thinking they can turn left as usual.
To my mind, the new scheme implemented by Overseer Salcedo is much better than the burak scheme implemented by RTA Consultant Tabor. Burak used to work in the past several years, but that may no longer be true today because of the many changes in the city’s traffic scenario.
With every new thing that is implemented, there will always be resistance—in this case, not only from road users but also from the RTA personnel themselves.
My unsolicited advice to Overseer Salcedo is to continue with the dry run as designed so the public can see the real picture.
