ONE may wonder why motorists in Cagayan de Oro do not seem to understand what traffic signs are saying, and why pedestrians ignore pedestrian lanes.

Then we may wonder why motorists from Cagayan de Oro suddenly become obedient to traffic laws and signs when they motor to other cities.

Well, wonder no more. The main reason for all this is the ineptness of traffic enforcers, which is due to the lack of management skills of those at the helm of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA).

One may motor around and see for himself that loading and unloading areas marked by yellow boxes are notoriously used as parking areas. Travel lanes are also likewise used by just anybody, as long as he has his hazard lights on. We could go on and on.

In this City, traffic laws are mere suggestions.

They were not promulgated by local legislators for strict enforcement but for blatant disregard by all.

The manager of the RTA does not seem to know what to do with the city’s traffic situation. The RTA has in fact so many consultants who also do not seem to know what to do.

Aren’t they a waste of people’s money?

On another matter, is it true that there is a toxic lady in the RTA? Some employees of that office are whispering among themselves about the sister of the department head who allegedly mulcts them of their hard-earned money.

Unless this is effectively addressed by the Mayor, morale in that office will continue to wane, which will, of course, result in the City having the lousiest traffic management.
