ILIGAN City ― I still can picture former mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz resent the fact that FPRRD included him in his "drug protector" list, along with former congressman Vicente "Varf" Belmonte. Du30 was fond of citing people that way.
Even if several supporters of the two said that it was "unfair" to be included as such in the list. Because during the time of their incumbency, Col. Celso G. Regencia was the police chief here. And why was not he included in the list?
In so many words, Cruz said that this was untrue, the listing. He even cited the case of Jed Mabilog Iloilo city mayor who was too named by the president then as involved in drugs. So, the family had to leave the country posthaste for fear of their lives.
Later on, as Cruz narrated, the family was assured that they could come home safely. Only to learn that Mabilog was to testify that Mar Roxas and Franklin Drilon were too "involved in drugs."
So, they stayed put abroad. But now that Digong is no longer president, they could come home. And they did. Without fear for their lives now behind them.
To note, among those congressmen who signed for VP Sara's impeachment is Lorenz Defensor of Iloilo City. And he is among the prosecutors too.
So I was eager to hear Cruz' comment on VP Sara's impeachment. Maybe, hear him condemn to his heart's content the VP. As in "like father, like daughter"?
But how wrong I was. Cruz said the VP is "a sweet lady". In other words, the former mayor here is not in favor of that impeachment development.
I could not believe my ears. For I still can recall her gesturing with her hands against her neck. In a gesture of: "beheading" PBBM. And who can forget his words about the father being dug out of the grave so that the remains can be thrown into the West Philippine Sea? And that of killing PBBM, the wife, and that Speaker Martin Romualdez with a "no joke, no joke' although conditional, somewhat, if she is "killed.' (This is, of course, the DU30 favorite word, if not the action?)
This makes me suspect that Cruz is maybe, a little in love with the VP.
Sorry for thinking such. As in, "With all the faults, I love thee still.''
