FOUR have been killed and three others were hurt when a trailer truck and a van figured in a head-on collision along Baliwagan Highway in Balingasag town at 3:30 pm, Tuesday
Police Provincial Director Col Gonzalo C. Villamor, Jr. identified the victims, based on police spot report including Starex van driver Bertly Jerom V. Esperat, 30, married, a resident of Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.
The van driver was killed on the spot, said Villamor.
Villamor also identified the three other fatalities as Lucille Rosete Cardinales, 53, married a resident of Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, Estella Dalangin, 57, married, and Erika Manangkil, 28, single, both residents of Tup-on Medina, Misamis Oriental. He said the three persons were passengers of the van.
The truck driver and his helper identified as Roy G. Decio, 39, married, a resident of Manoligao, Carmen Agusan del Norte, and Emiliano Pamocino, 35, single, a resident of Butuan respectively both sustained injuries said Villamor
Another injured person was Meriam Veras Esperat, 51, married. She is the mother of the driver who was also on board of the van.
Both injured people were brought to Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital in Balingasag for immediate medical treatment, Villamor said.
Only Rosalino Cahanap, 60, widower, a resident of Ambakon Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte was unhurt, Villamor added
According to the initial vehicular traffic investigation, the white trailer truck bearing plate No. KEE973 was traveling on his lane from Butuan City heading west, going to Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental while the orange van with plate no. KEG 531 colored orange was coming from the opposite direction heading east to Surigao City, Villamor said.
Upon reaching the Balingasag part of the national highway, the van suddenly swerved and encroached the lane of the oncoming trailer truck.
