CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor's Office chief of staff Shiela Lumbatan on Friday, Aug 18 said 53 rescue vehicles were officially handed over by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri to Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy and Liga ng mga Barangay President Yan Lam Lim.
"These vehicles are the first batch of disaster response and rescue vehicles allocated to each barangay in Cagayan de Oro City," said Lumbatan.
During the turnover, Senator Zubiri explained that these rescue vehicles, worth around P100 million, were funded through the Local Government Support Fund provided by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Lumbatan said the aim is to assist each barangay in promptly responding to the needs of the people, especially during any emergencies or disasters.
It is known that a total of 81 disaster response and rescue vehicles were allocated by Senator Zubiri for all barangays in Cagayan de Oro, with an additional one for the city.
Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy expressed his immense joy and gratitude to Senator Zubiri for his efforts in helping each barangay respond to emergencies.
Regional officials from the Department of Interior and Local Government and the DBM also reminded the local government and barangay authorities of their responsibility to properly safeguard and utilize these rescue vehicles.
"The provision of these rescue vehicles is a significant step towards enhancing the disaster response capabilities of each barangay in Cagayan de Oro," said Lumbatan.
She also said it reflects the commitment of Senator Zubiri and the government to prioritize the safety and welfare of the local community in times of need.
The allocation of these vehicles will undoubtedly contribute to the timely assistance and effective management of emergencies in the city and its barangays, according to Lumbatan.
