CAGAYAN de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has called Friday the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to hasten the preparations for the proposed Gusa flyover project.

The flyover will be located at the city’s Barangay Gusa junction of Galaxy Road and the National Highway.

Rodriguez announced that the feasibility study and financing for the project will be fast-tracked, following pledges from DPWH Secretary Manual Bonoan, Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain, and JICA Senior Representative Yanagiuchi Masanari to expedite the preparatory stages of the flyover.

Rodriguez personally requested their support during the inauguration of the P3 billion flood risk management project for the Cagayan de Oro River's Contract Package 2 in Barangay Consolacion yesterday, May 26, 2023.

Rodriguez explained that the Gusa flyover, which will have a budget of P2 billion, has been identified as a priority infrastructure project under former President Rodrigo Duterte's Build Build Build program. 

“This project aims to ease traffic congestion along the Butuan-Cagayan-Iligan Road (BCIR) and reduce travel time for motorists and commuters,” Rodriguez said.

He added that completing the preparatory stages of the Gusa flyover project is crucial in addressing traffic congestion in the area. 

“Once completed, the project will also provide employment opportunities for residents and boost the city's economy,” he stressed.

Despite delays in the project's implementation due to funding constraints and right-of-way acquisition issues, Rodriguez expressed confidence that with the help of the DPWH and JICA, the Gusa flyover project will finally push through and benefit the people of Cagayan de Oro.

Rodriguez said that we need the Gusa flyover project to begin soon to complement our other big-ticket projects such as the CdeO Coastal Bypass Road Phase 2 (Gusa to Puerto), CdeO Diversion Road (Balubal to Indahag to Laguindingan), CdeO Eastern Interior Road (JR Borja St Extention to Sayre Highway, Puerto), and including our proposed Northern Mindanao Railway System.

He emphasized that the flyover is a vital piece of infrastructure that will not only improve the city's transportation system but also contribute to its overall development and progress.

In closing, Rodriguez urged the public to support and cooperate with the government in the implementation of the Gusa flyover project.
