CAGAYAN de Oro City Police Office has traced the rental car used by the suspects involved in the daring daylight heist of Gold Mega Pawnshop robbery in Cogon.
Authorities officially announced on Monday, confirming that they have formally initiated legal proceedings against the potential suspects.
However, no further information regarding the details of the filed case was disclosed by law enforcement.
The vehicle used in the crime has been discovered in Clarin town, Misamis Occidental, and the owner of the vehicle has been positively identified.
Despite these developments, the search for the actual suspects is still ongoing.
Police Major Ivan Viñas, the Cocpo spokesman, confirmed this development Monday.
Additionally, Viñas revealed that the authorities have acquired the identities of the suspects, including their leader.
Due to the ongoing investigation, Viñas refrained from disclosing their names as of this posting.
On August 2, 2023, chaos unfolded at the renowned Gold Mega Jewelry store in downtown Cagayan de Oro as six armed suspects barged into the store during daylight hours, causing panic and disorder.
Unfortunately, 57-year-old Judith Wayan, the sister of the store owner, sustained injuries during the incident and was swiftly taken to the Maria Reyna Hospital for treatment.
The police estimated that the robbers successfully carted away pieces of jewelry, valued at around P9 million.
They made their getaway on two motorcycles, with one described as Yamaha Mio bearing license plates 8410 and 940.
Witnesses’ information has dramatically aided the ongoing pursuit by law enforcement, who had established checkpoints in strategic areas to apprehend the suspects and seek justice.
