IN a bid to raise awareness about suicide prevention, the city of Cagayan de Oro, hosted a walk for cause titled 'Lakaw alang sa Paglaum' (Walk for Hope).
The event, which started at the Rodelsa circle and ended at the Ampitheathre, was attended by over 1,000 city scholars, representatives from various national government agencies, school-based organizations, religious organizations, and city hall offices.
The walk was spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Department Psychosocial Division, in celebration of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.
Following the walk, an event was held at the Ampitheathre, attended by the Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan, who represented Mayor Klarex Uy.

Lumbatan expressed her hope for the continuity of such suicide prevention initiatives beyond World Suicide Prevention Day.
"This is more than just a walk," Lumbatan said, adding that it is a tangible symbol of our combined commitment to educate and address suicide, a pressing issue that affects our society.
Let's ensure that conversations about mental health and suicide prevention continue in our homes, and our workplace, according to Lumbatan.
"Please let the love and solidarity that we have shared, resonate and reach out to those who maybe silently struggling, ensuring them that they are not alone.," said Lumbatan.
The event saw participation from several key figures, including CSWD Officer Annie Tongson, City Scholarships Office staff Jessa Mae Dugenio, Dr. Maybelle Honcada from the City Health Office, Julie Resma from the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA), and City Information Officer Ivy Guantero. Each shared their individual messages with the audience.
City Psychologist Jaymee Leonen-Pagaspas emphasized the importance of fostering hope within the community during her speech.
The event concluded with community singing, marking the end of a day dedicated to the cause of suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
