CAGAYAN de Oro City Council’s Committee on Sports and Youth Development chairman John Michael Seno has reminded Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in barangays Taglimao and 19 that they can now start implementing their SK programs soon.
“SK annual budgets already approved by Council for release,” said Seno adding that are needed in carrying out projects that promote the youth’s welfare
During the session on Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn "Bebot" Rodriguez adopted two resolutions that restore the filed resolution of Barangay No. 19 and Taglimao where their SK 2022 Annual Budget is included.
Seno who is one of the sponsors of the adopted resolutions expressed his support for the move.
Seno said the council approved the estimated income and expenses worth P551,631.00 for Barangay No. 19 and P429,416.00 in Barangay Taglimao.
This (annual budget) is also to 'level up' youth leadership in barangays, according to Seno.
Seno who is also the committee on public works chairman said It is in accordance with the law and will help a lot for the further development of the youth.
Earlier even the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded SK officials to start utilizing their respective budgets in carrying out projects that promote the youth’s welfare.
Pending the issuance of the Commission on Audit’s guidelines on SK transactions, the DILG said SK officials may now start using their budgets provided that they comply with the requirements of the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) issued in January 23 by the DILG, Department of Budget and Management, and the National Youth Commission.
Seno with the soon-to-be-released annual budget the SK would now also encourage youth participation in their respective barangays and boost youth leadership in barangay affairs.
“Providing SK annual budget would allow them now to better focus on their work, particularly the planning and programming of their projects in the said two barangays,” said Seno.
The SK officials of the two barangays will fully now implement their programs and projects that are expected to provide more opportunities to the youth sector, Seno said.
Seno said the fund in the two barangays were allocated for the implementation of their programs and projects that were given priority this year in accordance with the provisions of RA 10742 or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015.
Among them is the education program especially to provide more knowledge to children in the field of health, environmental protection, youth employment and livelihood, capability building and other projects that encourage the youth to achieve more skills and development in their lives.
The resolution passed by the council for that purpose was supported by the legislative committee of Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya. (With a report from SP)
