CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy has encouraged department managers from City Hall to participate in a disaster preparedness training program.
These were the statements made by City Mayor's Office chief of staff Shiela Lumbatan following the mayor affirmed the call during the early morning inauguration of the new Operation Kahusay Og Kalinaw (OKK) Center at Magsaysay Park, Divisoria.
This training, according to Lumbatan would be facilitated by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-10) regional office.
"The training aims to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively assist the public during natural calamities," Lumbatan said.
She said the OKK center will serve as a hub for various departments including the city police, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Cagayan de Oro City station, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department (CDRRMD).
By joining this disaster preparedness training, department managers can enhance their understanding of emergency response protocols, coordination strategies, and effective communication during crises, as shared by Lumbatan.
"This initiative is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of the city's residents when faced with natural disasters," she said.
By equipping department managers with the necessary skills and knowledge, Cagayan de Oro City aims to enhance its disaster response capabilities, leading to a more resilient and prepared community.
Mayor Uy's emphasis on the importance of disaster preparedness reinforces the city's commitment to proactive measures in safeguarding its citizens, said Lumbatan.
She added that through this training, the city's department managers will be better equipped to handle various emergency scenarios and provide valuable support to the public during times of need.
"By working together and being prepared, Cagayan de Oro City is striving towards a safer and more secure future for its residents," Lumbatan said.
