IN a recent announcement made by Sheila Lumbatan, the Chief of Staff at the City Mayor's Office, it has been revealed that Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy is taking significant steps to ensure that the people of Sitio Macanhan in Barangay Carmen have suitable and secure housing.
This initiative involves reclassifying the land from "timberland" to "alienable and disposable, according to Lumbatan.
She said after writing a letter to Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and the senators, Mayor Uy requested their assistance in creating a parallel bill in the House of Senate, aligning with House Bill 7183 from Congress.
"The aim is to provide legal support for the land reclassification process," Lumbatan said.
It has come to light that the said land has been inhabited by over 400 families for the past 43 years.
The residents have been eagerly hoping for the official recognition of their land, which would grant them security and peace of mind.
In his letter to the House Committee on Natural Resources, Mayor Uy emphasizes that Macanhan is one of the relocation projects prioritized by his administration, in compliance with the Urban Development Housing Act of 1992, also known as Republic Act 7279.
With this plea, Mayor Klarex expresses optimism regarding the support and assistance from the 11 senators whom he has previously requested assistance from.
Lumbatan said their backing would contribute significantly to the realization of the land reclassification and the subsequent benefits it would bring to the residents.
"The efforts of Mayor Klarex and his team reflect their commitment to improving the lives of the Macanhan community," said Lumbatan.
By seeking legislative support, they are taking crucial steps towards granting the residents the security and stability they deserve in their homes, she added.
