CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy, together with other city officials gathered with the Catholic faithful to participate in a special Mass commemorating the annual feast day of St. Augustine earlier today.
Thus said City Mayor's Office chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan. She said the mass took place at the Cagayan de Oro Metropolitan Cathedral on August 28.
"Joining the Catholic community in this celebration showcased their support and respect for the faith of the people they serve," said Lumbatan.
Other officials attended according to Lumbatan were Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of Cagayan de Oro's 2nd District, and Councilors Joyleen Balaba, Maria Lourdes Gaane, James Judith II, and Yan Lam Lim.
Lumbatan said the event was attended by Mayor Klarex Uy and other city officials, demonstrating their commitment to uphold the city's religious and cultural traditions.
St. Augustine, a revered saint in the Catholic Church, holds special significance for the city of Cagayan de Oro.
The annual feast day provides an opportunity for both the religious community and local government officials to come together in unity and prayer, according to Lumbatan.
"The Mass at the Cagayan de Oro Metropolitan Cathedral served as a solemn tribute to St. Augustine," she stressed.
Lumbatan added it was a time for reflection, renewal, and seeking guidance and blessings from the patron saint.
"The presence of Mayor Klarex Uy, Vice Mayor Rodriguez, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, and other councilors emphasized the importance of faith and spirituality in the city's governance," said Lumbatan.
By participating in this religious event, the city officials displayed their dedication to fostering a strong bond between the government and the religious community.
"This gesture of unity and respect helps promote harmony, understanding, and cooperation among the diverse population of Cagayan de Oro," Lumbatan added.
